Salt and Silt
By abstracting landscapes from above, Salt and Silt invites reflection on the raw beauty and transience of nature. It speaks to the quiet resilience of life on the edge and the ever-shifting balance between survival and erasure in one of the planet’s most elemental environments.

This series of aerial images explores the stark, abstract beauty of salt lake shorelines—landscapes shaped by wind, water, and mineral sediment. From above, the terrain transforms into flowing patterns and subtle textures, where soft oranges and deep ochres are disrupted by fleeting flashes of aqua or blue—ephemeral signs of water in a parched environment.
These places are both mesmerising and unforgiving. Crystallised salt forms delicate lattices across sun-scorched ground, while the earth cracks under relentless exposure. The faint footprints of birds and wildlife are scattered across the surface—fragile, momentary traces of life in a place that quickly erases them.
By abstracting these landscapes from above, Salt and Silt invites reflection on the raw beauty and transience of nature. It speaks to the quiet resilience of life on the edge and the ever-shifting balance between survival and erasure in one of the planet’s most elemental environments.
